What is the best way to market ebooks for free?
Technology has made a lot of things easier for marketers. We have the option to automate our tasks and communicate with people and customers more efficiently. More importantly, we have the opportunity to promote and get our job done for as little money as possible.
Take the case for ebooks for example. In my line of work, ebooks have proven to be a great and useful way to generate leads. In fact, according to CMI, 65% of B2B marketers usually use eBooks as a content promotion tactic. They take a lot of work to produce. Authors spend weeks (if not months) developing, researching, writing, and editing them. However, simply creating high-quality content isn’t enough to generate the results you want and need. You still need to promote it and inform the right people. How do you accomplish this when you have limited to no budget? Take a look at our tips below:
1. Use your website
You already have one of the most effective platforms to begin promoting your ebook—your website. Make the most out of it. Something as simple as adding a pop-up that prominently displays your ebook to visitors, with a call to action that prompts them to download the ebook, can be a great way to spur downloads.
You can also create a sidebar callout, or a homepage slider. The point is, your website is great promotional real estate for ebook promotions. Use it to let existing visitors know that you have great content waiting for them.
2. Leverage on your blog
Smart marketers know that blogs are critical to their marketing efforts. So, it’s very likely you’re already consistently developing material for yours. Using your blog, which likely has a regular audience, browse through which posts are relevant to your ebook topic and edit its call to action so it prompts readers to download a copy.
You can even review your blog posts and find topics that complement your ebook content and repurpose it to support promotions for your ebook. For example, if you’ve written an ebook on how to generate effective, interesting content consistently, look for topics that share similar subject matter and then add a compelling call to action at the end. 3. Keyword optimize your blog posts promoting the ebook
Once you’ve found relevant posts and edited your call to action to prompt more ebook downloads, make an effort to drive more traffic towards it.
Try keyword optimizing your blog posts to focus more on the ebook topic at hand. Make sure the post links to your ebook download page, mention the topic two or three times in the post, and edit the focus keyword, if possible to raise its visibility on search engines.
4. Use social media to promote your ebook
Social media is a great way to introduce content and promote it for little to no budget. Start by posting about your ebook and follow it by promoting blog posts related to your ebook topic. You can also create a video teaser, which has been known to significantly increase engagement.
Hashtags are also a great way to spur traffic and reach new audiences, especially on Twitter. On LinkedIn, you can make use of their direct message feature to reach out to target prospects and engage them directly. If you have the option to allot some budget behind your marketing efforts, try leveraging on pay per click ads to drive more downloads. The best thing about social media ads is that they’re scalable, so you can adjust your budget accordingly.
