Which content marketing strategies will work in today’s world?
Given all the strategies that you could possibly implement for your business, I should point out that there are no cookie-cutter strategies that will guarantee your success. No two businesses are built exactly alike. It will take some trial and error to find the right tactics for your unique objectives.
This is not to say there aren’t some effective benchmarks and best practices that you can use right now, however. Here are some of my top recommended strategies that work across all types of businesses:
1. Add Video Into Your Content Marketing Mix
People watch 1 billion hours of YouTube daily.
It’s hard to argue with that kind of statistic. Anyone who wants to capture the short attention spans of today’s market would do well to include video in their content marketing plan. It’s very easy to share a video across multiple platforms. There are also numerous tools available that can help content marketers create video content.
2. Pay Attention to Micro-Content on Social Media
A lot of marketers tout the importance of long-form content. However, I’m a firm believer in the potential of micro-content as well. When you have only a few seconds to capture the attention of a potential lead, that’s where well-crafted micro-content comes in.
Micro-content is exactly what it sounds like: brief, short-form content. It includes memes, images, and videos with bite-sized captions, and is best used for social media. With mobile use consistently rising, this is more relevant than ever for marketers. Don’t underestimate the power of putting effort into creating well-written micro-content that can both inform and engage.
3. Be Sensitive to Current Events
Content marketers tend to be very focused on their objectives, sometimes at the expense of considerations around how those objectives should be reached. For example, an important part of developing marketing strategies is to be sensitive to what the world is currently going through. We can’t keep pushing products and brands without acknowledging the fact that the world is currently going through one of the biggest pandemics it has ever seen.
People are more sensitive than ever to what brands are putting out there. We have a responsibility to make sure that we recognize relevant events that are shaping our audience’s thoughts, opinions, and ultimately buying habits.
4. SEO Matters
Optimizing for search engines still matters. What use would it be to write a well-researched piece if it’s not optimized so search engines can rank it well enough to be discovered? You’ve already done the grunt work of producing a great article. Go the extra mile to ensure your content ranks well on Google and other search engines.
