Does content marketing actually work?

As a marketer with solid experience in content marketing, I can confidently say that yes, content marketing does work. However, it may take a lot more than my word to convince you or your bosses of this fact. So, I’ve compiled below a selection of the best statistics that will help convince you of the value of content marketing.

1. Year-over-year growth in unique site traffic is 7.8x higher for content marketing leaders compared to followers (19.7% vs 2.5%).

To be considered a content marketing leader, you have to stand out among the rest. When you combine quality content with a thoughtfully implemented strategy, you’ll find that you’re actually driving more traffic to your website. More traffic means more prospects, and more prospects mean more opportunities to convert casual browsers into actual customers.

2. According to Dragon Search Marketing, “61% of consumers are influenced by custom content.”

61% is a massive chunk of your existing audience. Creating quality, custom content can help you maintain stronger relationships with your audience, who are more likely to convert.

How do you develop custom content? Pay attention to your reader comments and see what topics they want to learn more about. Run surveys and ask your audience to answer them. Use the insight you gather to create a more personalized approach to content creation. It will definitely help significantly boost your marketing strategy efforts.

3. Content marketing costs 62% less than traditional marketing strategies and can generate around three times as many leads.

Businesses have to be very smart about where they invest their resources, including their marketing budgets. You want to make sure that you’re putting your money somewhere where you’re able to maximize your ROI.

Of course, if you have more room to diversify your marketing strategy, finding the right balance between traditional marketing strategies and online content marketing is also a great option, as it has been known to bring in quick sales. However, if you’re working with a limited budget, opting for a more cost-effective way that practically guarantees better results is definitely your best option.

4. Conversion rates are nearly 6x higher for content marketing adopters than non-adopters (2.9% vs 0.5%).

There’s proof behind the claim that content marketing works. An Aberdeen study notes that businesses who invested and focused their marketing efforts on content marketing managed to boost their website conversions 5 times more than companies who don’t.

In contrast, the study also showed that businesses who didn’t make an effort to develop a content marketing strategy saw minimal increase in their conversion rates—a mere 0.5%.

5. 82% of marketers who blog see positive ROI from their inbound marketing.

Blogging, a key part of content marketing, is critical to the growth of any online business.

Blogging can help increase your visibility on search engines and introduce your content to more audiences. It can also ensure that you’re consistently providing relevant content for your audience.

Bottom line?

I strongly urge you to take advantage of these statistics next time you’re trying to convince someone in your team that you should invest more in content marketing. Content marketing works and the numbers speak for themselves. If you have any questions, get in touch with me at LeadsPanda.
