How can I market a blog in social media?

A lot of marketers assume that just because they maintain personal social media accounts mean they can easily do the same for brands. However, when it comes to using social media to promote blogs, you need to be more thoughtful and purposeful with your use of social media.

So, how do you go about it? Here are some tried and tested ways I’ve been able to leverage on some of the most popular platforms–

1. Be sure to integrate social media with your blog

Make it easy for your readers to share your content. People who read your blog will need an easy way to connect your blog with their social media accounts. Sharing something by taking the URL and logging in to their pages may seem simple enough, but a lot of people consider it tedious and time-consuming. Integrating social sharing buttons so they can simply click on it if they want to post it on their walls or timelines takes the guesswork out of sharing.

Here’s a tip—don’t go overboard and add sharing buttons for all your social media accounts. Choose 2-3 sites so visitors don’t get overwhelmed and the multiple buttons don’t make your page look too cluttered.

2. Share your blog across all your social media profiles

Go to where your readers are. If your blog page is a little low on traffic, be sure to share your blog posts on your own social media platforms and carefully craft a caption that’s engaging and relatable to your followers. So, here’s a few notes that I’d like to share hinging off this tip:

  • Share frequently and with consistency. Don’t post every day within a week, only to skip posting altogether the following week.
  • Use scheduling tools to make the whole process more efficient. I personally like Buffer, but Hootsuite and Sproutsocial are other popular options.
  • Make sure you check what the optimum time for posting is for your audience.

 3. Customize your posts according to the social media platform

This doesn’t necessarily have to be as time-consuming or difficult as you imagine. For example, blog posts are best posted on Facebook because the platform itself pulls an image from your post and a brief snippet of your blog—giving visitors a brief summary of what your blog post is about. However, for Twitter, you need to make sure that you use a link shortener since you’re only allowed 120 characters. If you want to publish on Instagram, make sure that you add an image following a square format since it’s a very visual platform. If you’re using LinkedIn, a slight tweak of the title to make it sound more business-centric might be in order.

No need to overhaul the whole post. You just have to know how to adjust and modify each post to make the most out of the marketing potential that each presents.

One final thing…

No matter where you post, be sure to reply to any engagement or comment you receive. Like the comments, reply, and start a conversation. Do something to show that you acknowledge and appreciate their effort to participate in your post.

I’d love to hear what other tips you’ve tried to help promote your blog posts on social media. Leave me a message in the comment section below or reach out to me and we can discuss it further.
