How did content marketing change in recent years?

Even though there are tried-and-true tools, techniques, and strategies, content marketing is a constantly evolving industry. How have new tools and trends changed content marketing this year, and what should we know as we go into the new year?

1. More Focus on Live Video and Video Content

With previous years leading all of us to find better ways to be more engaging, video inevitably boomed. Once in-person restrictions were lifted, however, it was clear that live video is here to stay.

A lot of content marketers realized that, armed with a smartphone and the latest social media platforms like TikTok and Instagram Reels, it was actually quite quick and easy to produce video content. It also paved the way for more creative ways to interact with followers and audiences, with live commenting and conversations happening in real time.

2. Overall Improvement of the Content Experience

With technology allowing us to create content faster and easier than ever, followers are more demanding when it comes to brands offering better content experiences.

Any page that has too many pop-ups tends to turn audiences off. Too many ad panels will probably lead to higher bounce rates. A post with no other media just presents a big wall of text to read, so don’t expect your audience to make time for it.

You need to give users reasons to stay and engage with your content by delivering a seamless content experience. Beyond the quality of your article, you have to have attractive images, interactive content, and relevant videos. Give them webinars, access to podcasts, and ensure you have strategic calls to action.

3. Additional SEO Efforts

SEO is not dead. In fact, I think SEO will continue to be in the spotlight this year and beyond.

High quality SEO is a critical piece of content marketing and will help your brand stand out. During a time when most brands had to double down on their online marketing efforts, one of the most effective ways to stand out from competition was SEO. Using long-tail keywords and phrases seamlessly integrated into your content makes it easier for audiences to find you.

4. Repurposing Content Across Different Channels

There’s a lot of emphasis on creating great content because of how easy it is to do these days. This opens up another opportunity for content marketers: the option to repurpose previously published old content.

Old articles can be transformed into podcasts, videos, infographics—basically anything that allows you to present your message more creatively and engagingly. The newest social media platforms can also help make repurposing content easier for you. Conduct a quick but comprehensive content audit to determine what you can repurpose.

The great thing about all these content marketing trends is how easy they are to implement. Give them a try and see how they change the content marketing game for your business.
