What are some email marketing tips and tricks?
With so many other alternative ways to reach your audience these days, marketers want to make sure they’re putting all their efforts in the right place. Is email marketing one of these valuable channels? Yes, definitely.
Email marketing is so much more than sending a random email to your audience’s inbox. For starters, there were 3.9 billion email users as of 2019. That figure is set to rise by 4.3 billion by 2023. Based on these statistics alone, it’s obvious how much potential there is to engage, convince, and convert new audiences.
In my years as a content marketer, I’ve learned quite a few tips and tricks about email marketing that I’d like to share with you:
1. Pique Your Audience’s Interest
How do you do this? With your subject line.
From the get-go, you can hook your email subscribers with well-crafted subject lines. This is why I make a big effort to write engaging and enticing subject lines that pique your audience’s interest.
An easy way to do this is with an obvious cliffhanger. It makes it more compelling for your audience to click on the email and drives them to actually read what you have to say. Be warned though, use this strategy when you absolutely have something enticing to offer. Constantly sending cliffhanger emails can really annoy your audience.
2. Give Your CTA Buttons Context
Call to actions are very important—we all know that. But on top of following CTA best practices, it helps to present your CTA buttons with context. Make sure the text is also descriptive, easy to act on, and hard to ignore. The context of your CTA button is key to building urgency that drives action.
3. Emails Shouldn’t Just Sell—They Should Also Engage
Most marketers get into content marketing to sell, which is a perfectly legitimate goal. However, never forget that a big part of increasing sales is engaging your audience and building a real, loyal relationship with your subscribers.
When people subscribe to your email list, it’s because they’re expressing an interest in your business and what you have to offer. They don’t necessarily want to be pitched to every single day. So, make an effort to give them good information about your product or service. This lets them know why you stand out from the competition and deserve their loyal patronage. Don’t disappoint or they’ll unsubscribe.
I always encourage marketers to test their email copy as often as they can. Split testing is the best way to understand what elements in your email marketing campaigns work best for your audience. This will allow you to continually improve your email campaigns.
