What are some recommended content marketing strategies for beginners?

There are so many content marketing strategies that you can use today that it’s hard to know what approach would be most effective for your own business—especially if you’re just starting out in content marketing.

So, to answer your question, I wanted to share some of the most effective basic strategies in content marketing that I have tried and implemented through the years.

1. Craft Relevant, Useful Content

While every marketer knows this, most still create content that overtly tries to sell their product or service. The whole point of content marketing, however, is to share content that isn’t directly promotional. Content marketing is meant to build loyalty and relationships with your target audience. Keep in mind, there are 4.4 million blog posts that were published daily in 2019 alone, which means it’s pretty hard to stand out amid the volume of competing content. This is why boring, irrelevant content won’t deliver the results you need.

You need to craft unique content that truly resonates with your audience. This involves getting to know who you’re speaking to, understanding what they want to learn, and focusing on addressing questions and pain points they may have.

2. Use Social Media Wisely

Social media is so ubiquitous that it doesn’t matter what industry your business is in—a huge chunk of your audience will likely be on at least one social media platform. The trick is knowing where they are so you can maximize your potential for engagement.

I suggest focusing on specific social media sites instead of taking on all available platforms. Remember, the demographics of Facebook will vary from the demographics of TikTok users. Find the platform where most of your audience spends their time to make the most out of your efforts.

3. Optimize Your Landing Pages

Landing pages have one specific goal: to encourage your visitors to respond to your call to action. Most content marketing newbies think all it takes to get that done is some copy and maybe an image or two to go with it. Veteran content marketers know it takes a lot more than that to deliver results.

You need to optimize your landing page to make it easy for your audience to click YES on your call to action. Pay attention to the benefits of your offer and highlight them; use images to make your landing pages more engaging; test your headlines and titles to find out which one is the most effective. Finally, make sure that your call to action buttons are prominent and visible—don’t leave your audience guessing what they should do next.

It all sounds so simple, right? That’s the great thing about content marketing: even as a beginner, you can easily implement these actionable steps so you can maximize the results of content marketing for your business.
