What are the biggest content must haves in millennial marketing?
Millennials are one of the easiest generations to market to. They’re online all the time. They’re on every social media platform imaginable. They’ve never lived a life without the internet.
However, the very things that make it easier to market to millennials, I believe, are the same reasons that make it so hard to sell to them as well. So, it’s important that you identify and incorporate these content must-haves to enable you to effectively attract and engage this generation.
To that end, here are some of my best tips for marketing to millennials:
1. Make sure your offer stands out
Marketing to millennials means you have to compete with a lot of other businesses and brands. It’s not enough that you’re online, your product or service needs to stand out online. Because of this generation’s exposure to competing brands, it’s important that your content is unique and exceptional.
2. Create opportunities for giving back to the community
Perhaps no generation is more socially conscious than millennials. This younger generation embraces the idea of giving back and philanthropy and is happy to invest in a business or brand that shows they care about people, communities, and the environment.
3. Tailor content for convenience and efficiency
Always keep in mind that millennials are a generation that’s used to getting things at the speed of need. Content that keeps going around in circles is likely to put them off. They want content that is tailored for their preferred platforms and that is convenient to consume.
4. Include testimonials and reviews from other customers
Word of mouth is critical to forming millennials’ opinions about your products and services. While it’s not always feasible to have someone they know vouching for your product, the next best thing is to add proof that fellow customers are happy with their purchases. Whenever you can, always try to include testimonials and reviews from other customers.
5. Incorporate various forms of media
You should be relying on more than just text to get your point across. At your disposal are videos, gifs, audio, memes, infographics, photos—use it all to your advantage. Millennials are also notorious for having really short attention spans. To that end, make sure that you’re maximizing your available multimedia resources to capture and hold their attention. Otherwise, they will simply move on to the next thing.
6. Personalize your communication
For the millennial generation, personalization isn’t just nice to have, it’s absolutely necessary. Today’s youth are so used to the idea of brands and businesses reaching out to them by their name that anything less will just seem cold and impersonal. There are numerous tools that can be used to help you with this, so be sure to leverage on it. Take the time to address them by their first name when emailing or sending a message. If possible, learn about their shopping habits. Use the insight you gather to create a customized marketing approach for your audience. Trust me, millennials will appreciate the extra effort that went into it.
