Why is content marketing so important these days?

It’s effective, easy to implement, and cost-efficient—but I really want to go into more detail on this. Everyone talks about how important content marketing is and are willing to incorporate it into their marketing strategies, but don’t really make the effort to understand why. So, let’s hash it out.

1. It’s Even More Important to Maintain a Strong Online Presence Today

Due to COVID-19, the world’s reliance on the Internet has become stronger. People are being asked to shelter indoors, minimize non-essential travel, and work and study from home. As a result, we spend more time online. In fact, our heavy reliance on the Internet has led to nearly a 50% increase in data usage.

The takeaway here: everyone is online these days. If you want to remain top of mind and stay competitive, you have to be where everyone is. Content marketing can help you be more visible on search engines, expand your audience reach, communicate to your target audience, and stay relevant.

2. Content Marketing Gives You a Long-Term Marketing Strategy

When you focus on creating high-quality content that is relevant and valuable, you’re essentially creating marketing materials that can remain relevant in the long term. This can help drive traffic to your site, ensure that you remain searchable on search engines, and make you more visible to prospects.

3. It Offers Cost-Efficient Alternatives to Traditional Marketing and Advertising

Most businesses recognize the value of content marketing — it’s effective and affordable. Instead of spending thousands on an ad, a billboard, or getting media airtime, you can easily scale your efforts to fit your budget and reach a targeted audience. Depending on your needs, how much money you’re willing to spend, and who you’re trying to reach, you can adjust your efforts to fit a specific budget that will still deliver the results you need.

These days, when every business is trying to maximize the money they spend, this is a very important consideration for content marketers.

4. Content Marketing Can Nurture and Convert Leads

Remember this, people will rarely search for your specific brand or service by name, much less purchase it from your website straightaway.

This is by no means a reflection of your brand’s quality but more a function of user behaviour. To best respond to their habits as a consumer, they first have to learn of your business—what you do, and what you have to offer. They find out what your product and service can do for them, learn about why you’re the best option among the competition; and if all goes well, they become actual, paying customers. To go through these stages, it’s necessary to nurture them along each stage. Effective content marketing can help you with that because you can customize content for each stage and help convince a prospect to move further along the funnel until they convert.

5. You Can Use Content Marketing to Educate Customers

Resist the urge to simply tell your customers why your product is the best. Instead, educate them on the points that will establish exactly why your product or service is better. While traditional ads do a fine job of announcing to the world why your product is number one, content allows you to say that and all the reasons that prove why you’re number one. This is why content marketing is largely seen as a more credible source of information versus ads.
