Why should a company do content marketing?
In this day and age, traditional marketing methods just won’t cut it. Your audience spends more time on their phone than flipping through a newspaper, which means that if your brand isn’t making an effort to do content marketing, then you’re losing out on a lot of potential business.
A lot of people think that content marketing is simply about writing and publishing blogs. That’s just one part of it. Content marketing is an overall online strategy that entails the creation, publication, and distribution of content to a specific audience so that you can generate new traffic, and therefore new customers, to your website.
That said, if I had to run down all the reasons why your business should do content marketing, here are my top 4:
1. It’s the best and easiest way to build trust with your visitors
Creating and sharing content with your intended audience consistently allows you to build a reputation anchored on reliability and credibility. Pay attention to the quality of articles you produce and how you engage with your audience on your published posts. This will showcase you as an authority in your industry.
2. Content marketing can help you build brand awareness
If you’re a small to medium business that’s competing with hundreds, if not thousands, of other brands, it’s hard to differentiate yourself. Fortunately, the right content marketing strategy driving your business can significantly boost traffic to your site and drive more people to it. This allows you to generate more awareness about your brand and demonstrate your unique expertise.
3. It can help attract ideal buyers
Organic traffic is great. However, not everyone that ends up on your site is a qualified lead who will ultimately convert. You want to attract ideal customers with the highest possibility of taking positive action on your call to action.
The great thing about content marketing is that it allows you to target people with the highest potential of actually wanting to hear what you have to say. For example, only people who are familiar with your industry are doing the search using keywords that will allow them to find your blog. From this group, only those who are genuinely interested in your product or service will find themselves on your landing page.
4. It can be a more cost-effective way to market your business
One of the most challenging aspects of promoting a business before the Internet was how prohibitive it was to run an ad, or produce a TV commercial, even create a brief radio clip. It was expensive and time-consuming. In a lot of cases, only the big corporate brands could afford it.
Content marketing is affordable, scalable, and easy to implement yourself. To that end, it’s so much easier to take actionable steps towards promoting your brand and getting your name out there. With social media, you can easily form a community that supports your services or products. Their comments and opinions shared regularly on your pages, or even discussions you have in the comment section, all serve to keep you top of mind among your target audience.
