What factors should one keep in mind while doing digital marketing strategy?

This one’s a little tricky to answer because how you approach your digital marketing strategy will really depend on your company’s business goals. With that in mind, you should also follow a few best practices to guide your efforts and stay on track.

In my experience, these factors help you map out your digital marketing plan:

1. Base Your Strategy on a Realistic Framework

To figure out whether your plan is feasible, map out the content and timeline to ensure your efforts will yield realistic outcomes. It’s best to identify a set of key performance indicators (KPI) that will help guide you towards your goal and track your progress.

2. Understand What Kind of Content You Need to Produce

Creating content is much more than just drafting and publishing blog posts. It’s a combination of articles, key visuals, social media materials, videos, and even podcasts and ads. There’s so much you can do—but you have to know what kind of content your audience responds to. What topics interest them? What material spurs engagement? What kind of social media platform do they respond to most?

Additionally, any content you create has to tell a story. Avoid churning out content for the sake of it. Your pieces should always tie back to your overall vision and purpose while reflecting a clear brand voice.

3. Be Flexible

It’s great to plan everything to the smallest detail. However, remember to leave room for unexpected circumstances. For example, leaving room to incorporate things like trends and current events can help boost your marketing strategy’s relevance as you implement it. Flexibility also means you can quickly respond to advancements and changes in the industry, easily keeping up with competitors.

4. Streamline Your Branding

Everything about your brand—from your colour scheme to your website’s design, your logo to your social media—must reflect a singular brand image and voice to create the right impression. Smaller businesses tend to overlook the importance of this but when you clearly communicate what your brand is about and the vision you are working towards, it helps you attract the right audience and build loyalty among your followers.

5. Pay Attention to Your SEO

A big part of your content marketing strategy should always focus on search engine optimization (SEO). The best way to maximize your visibility and ensure all your digital marketing efforts can be found by the right audience is by producing high-quality content and making sure your website is searchable and ranks well on search engine searches. When your content is supported by SEO, it will be easier to achieve your content marketing goals.
