What are the most common types of content marketing?

Content marketing has evolved so fast since it was first introduced, hasn’t it? At this rate, if you want to stand out in an increasingly overcrowded marketplace that’s all about leveraging the benefits of content marketing, you have to know which types are best for your business. Some will be effective for you and others won’t—luckily, there are a lot to choose from.

1. Blogs

Blogs are by far the most common type among all content marketing forms. A blog on your website is not a nice-to-have; it’s a necessity. It’s good for SEO, helps your site rank on search engines, and can be a cost-effective way to drive organic traffic to your site. Within blogging are numerous other categories as well. Internal blogging refers to a blog housed on your own website, contributor posts refer to you contributing to other reputable publications, and guest blogging can help expand your company’s reach.

2. Social Media Posts

Within content marketing is another subset that focuses on social media. Social media is an excellent method of content marketing that lets you promote your products and inform your audience. It also engages them so you can eventually build loyalty among your target audience.

There are many social media platforms available today, each with its own following. So, consider what platforms are most suited for your business. Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram are usually ideal for any business. However, depending on your audience, you can expand to other platforms as well. Snapchat and TikTok are great if you cater to a younger demographic. Pinterest is perfect for more visual brands in industries such as fashion. For more business-related content, LinkedIn is a must.

3. Video

Video is one of the easiest ways to engage your audience. Thankfully, the availability of tools today lets you create and produce video content easily. You can now disseminate video content on your website, emails, social media, and major video sharing platforms such as YouTube.

4.  Infographics

Infographics let you combine the benefits of eye-catching visuals with well-written content. You’re essentially serving content in a visually appealing, easily consumable format so it’s easier to read and share. This is a great way to share information that would typically be very hard to understand or complicated to explain.

5. eBooks

Think of eBooks as longer versions of blog content. They’re not necessarily a full book, but they’re a little longer than your typical blog content. It’s a great way to give your audience valuable information in a more in-depth way. Typically, it’s offered as gated content that helps businesses build their following. For example, signing up for your newsletter can give a visitor access to an ebook with more detailed information on managing their business.

There are more content marketing types, of course, but these are by far the most popular ones used today. If you have any questions, leave me a comment below or join the conversation on Twitter or LinkedIn
